Quicken™
- This course will teach the student how to use Quicken and how to manage their finances.
- Topics covered include checkbook maintenance, portfolio management, investment tracking, and
financial planning with tools. If the students have a particular interest in one area over another, the instructor will modify the 4-week course accordingly.
Lesson One: Introduction to Quicken
This will explain what Quicken is and what versions are available. While reviewing the
components of Windows desktop you will start Quicken, create a file, and set up several
general options. This will give you a general knowledge of the available Quicken Help.
Lesson Two: Set Up Accounts
Setting up accounts and categories teach you how to set up a Class 1 file and use categories
to make Quicken an effective tool. (Class 1 is generic file name used in the manual.)
Lesson Three: Checking Account Processes
It's time to set up your checking account, manage a check register, enter transactions and
reconcile your account as well as learning what memorized transactions are and how to print
checks.
Lesson Four: Calendars, Reminders, and Savings
Financial calendars, reminders, savings account processes will all be explained in this lesson.
You will set up a financial calendar to provide reminders for your personal file. For fun you
will learn how to change Quicken window colors. You will also complete setting up your savings
account.
Lesson Five: Credit Card Accounts
Credit card account processes are set up in the same manner as a checking account. Also register,
enter transactions, pay bills and reconcile your credit card statement to your credit card register.
Lesson Six: Investment Accounts
This section will guide you how to use the Investment register and portfolio, update your
portfolio manually and request online quotes as well as generating various reports.
Lesson Seven: Budget, Reports,and Graphs
You will learn how to setup a budget, create reports, and create graphs in this lesson. You will learn
how to generate budget reports with graphs and explore other report options.
Lesson Eight: Quicken Home Page
The Quicken home page, financial activity centers, and online capabilities are taught in this
final lesson. We will take you to Quicken's home page financial activity center in a "Web page"
format while learning about Quicken's online capabilities.
