Microsoft® Word
- This four-week course is intended for people who have some knowledge about a computer, can open and
close a file, and want to improve their word processing skills.
- It will prepare students to become comfortable working in the Windows environment,
sharpen their mouse skills, improve their letter writing, envelopes and word layouts.
- Basics or PC Intro, or equivalent knowledge, is a prerequisite for
enrolling in the Word courses.
Week One
Lesson One:
Provides exposure to some of the editing
features of the Word program. Students will insert, delete and select text, move through a
document and save a document. They will learn to work in two documents that are open at the
same time and to use the spell checker and print preview.
Lesson Two:
Continuation of lesson one working in two
documents that are open at the same time, corrections, deleting and editing.
Week Two
Lesson Three:
The lesson introduces students to formatting
characters' font, size, color and style. They will use menu commands as well as toolbar buttons.
Lesson Four:
Builds on character formatting skills in
activities that teach the students to format paragraphs using the toolbar and ruler. They will
practice alignment, line spacing, paragraph spacing and indents.
Week Three
Lesson Five:
Students will learn to use tabs and tables to
align text and create columns.
Lesson Six:
Learn about page layout options and create
headers and footers, set columns and insert page numbers and page breaks.
Week Four
Lesson Seven:
Students are introduced to advanced features
in Word. They will create numbered lists, use special characters and create footnotes.
They will insert a clip art picture in a word processing document.
Lesson Eight:
Students will "find and replace" in a document
and write a form letter using fields from a pre-existing database. They will learn how to use
mail merge to address envelopes. A database file is provided.
