Creating Note Cards (two 2-hour sessions)

Note: The class has been moved to Monday, November 28, 2011. This seminar is normally two 2-hour sessions, but this one will be done in one day. Class will be from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Bring an easy lunch. Contact Joyce or Nancy Jo if you have questions, or contact us here.

Prerequisites:

We will use primarily the free Open Office Drawing program.  Please bring your own digital photos on a CD or flash drive, in order to make your personalized note cards.  We will not have time in class to scan photos. If you need to have photos scanned into digital format, check our website at www.austincomputer.org to see if there is a scanning session scheduled before this seminar.

Description:

This seminar will cover the essential techniques to create note cards: sizing, placement of graphics, and font manipulation

Goals:

Discuss principles of good design

Learn basic structures for note cards and greeting cards

Discuss various types of papers and card stock suitable for printing

Understand placement of fonts, including vertical and inverted fonts

Download and install free clipart and photos

Download and install a free publishing program if you don't own MS Publisher

Create your own trademark or unique name

Create edges, frames, and/or masks for your designs using Paint Shop Pro

Install new fonts from disk to computer

Make note cards with your photos.


Time permitting:

We will create address labels with pictures

Have lab time for printing your creations *

Create full or half page watermarks

* We will print 25 cards (finished folded size 4.25 x 5.5) double-sided for free. There will be additional charges for any cards above that number.
