Digital Photography Photo Clubs

SeniorNet Austin offers digital photography photo clubs where you can learn how to take better digital photos, enhance your digital photos, and explore all aspects of the digital darkroom. Each club has different prerequisites for computer skills and camera skills that are listed in the summaries of each club below. All clubs are photo-enhancing clubs and meant to improve your basic computer skills as related to photos, folders, organization software, and editing software.

 

The membership is yearly and starts in January. If there are vacancies or openings in any club, you are welcome to join in mid-year. Please call the office 451-4611 for further information.

The following nine photo clubs, listed in order from beginner to advanced, are slated for 2010:

  • "Out of the Box" Photo Club * beginner in camera and software
  • "I Know Nada" Photo Club * beginner in using software
  • "I Know Poco I" Photo Club * advanced beginner
  • "I Know Poco II" Photo Club * advanced beginner
  • Photo Club A * intermediate
  • Photo Club B * most advanced
  • Photo Club C * intermediate
  • Adobe Elements * advanced beginner ( new)
  • Multimedia- Pro Show Gold or Producer * advanced (new)

Enrollment in all photo clubs, except "Out of the Box,", Nada and Elements requires instructor approval and available space.

Photo Club A

Prerequisites:

Beginner to intermediate computer skills.

Fee:

$60/year

Description:

  • Meets once a month on the first Wednesday with additional field trips.
  • Learn fine tuning adjustments and effects on photos.
  • Perform some artwork on photos and learn basic multimedia.
  • Learn some camera work and tips.

Photo Club B

Prerequisites:

Intermediate to advanced computer skills. Do not need coaching with computer skills. Capable of making a multimedia show.

Fee:

$60/year

Description:

  • Meets once a month on the second Monday with additional field trips
  • Learn advanced photo editing.
  • Uses a variety of software.
  • Learn about artistic effects, plug ins, layers, fancy fonts, etc.
  • Learn about enhancements beyond the basics.

Photo Club C

Prerequisites:

Beginner to intermediate computer skills.

Fee:

$60/year

Description:

  • Meets once a month on the fourth Wednesday with additional field trips.
  • Learn fine tuning adjustments and effects on photos.
  • Perform some artwork on photos.
  • Learn some camera work and tips.
  • Has the same monthly topics as Photo Club A.

I Know Nada Photo Club

Prerequisites:

Beginner computer skills and some camera skills.

Fee:

$60/year

Description:

  • Meets once a month on the fourth Monday with additional field trips.
  • Learn how to use the camera and how to download photos.
  • Get basic skills on adjusting photos.
  • Get additional help on camera settings.
  • Emphasis on improving computer skills for photography
  • Uses several software programs including Paint Shop Pro X2, Picasa, and PhotoScape.

 

I Know Poco I Photo Club

Prerequisites:

Beginner computer skills and some camera skills.

Fee:

$60/year

Description:

  • Meets once a month on the third Monday with additional field trips.
  • Learn how to use the camera and how to download photos.
  • Get basic skills on adjusting photos.
  • Get additional help on camera settings.
  • Uses several software programs including Paint Shop Pro X2, Picasa, and PhotoScape.

I Know Poco II Photo Club

Prerequisites:

Beginner computer skills and some camera skills.

Fee:

$60/year

Description:

  • Meets once a month on the third Wednesday with additional field trips.
  • Learn how to use the camera and how to download photos.
  • Get basic skills on adjusting photos.
  • Get additional help on camera settings.
  • Uses several software programs including Paint Shop Pro X2, Picasa, and PhotoScape.

Out of the Box Photo Club

Prerequisites:

Beginner computer and camera skills.

Fee:

$60/yearly

Description:

  • More camera work than other clubs
  • Meets once a month on the first Thursday with additional field trips.
  • Learn the basics of the digital camera with emphasis on settings and techniques.
  • Learn how to download photos.
  • Get help on camera settings.
  • Learn the basics of photo adjustments using Picasa .
  • Learn how to send photos by e-mail.
  • Learn the basics of photo file management.
  • Learn straightening, cropping, and basic enhancements.
  • The "Out of the Box II" Photo Club meets once a month.

Adobe Photoshop Elements Photo Club

Prerequisites:

Basic computer skills on the keyboard. Know how to open and close programs as well as the save function.

You should have a basic understanding of some photo terms and file formats, like .jpeg

Instructor: Rod Holley

Description:

  • Meets once a month on the 4th Tuesday morning with additional field trips.
  • Get a general overview of features and functions of this software by Adobe
  • Get acquainted with the tools and menus while using photographs.
  • Prepare images for printing, Web and e-mail
  • Learn easy enhancement tricks
  • Add borders and frames
  • Enhanced Use of Tools and the Tool Options in the Toolbox
  • Learn to Use the PSE Create, Share and Organizer Functions
  • Making Photomerges of Faces, Groups and Panoramas
  • Advanced Use of Layers and the Blend Modes
  • Using Masks
  • Adding and Using Plug-ins; Filters and Effects
  • Learn to Create Special Photos; such as Burst Photographs

 

Pro Show Multimedia Photo Club

Prerequisites:

Advanced computer and camera skills.

Fee:

$60/yearly

Description:

  • Meets once a month on the 2nd Wednesday afternoon with additional field trips.
  • Learn the basics of combining audio, video, with photos using Pro SHow Gold or Producer
  • Learn composition, transitions, and timelines
  • Learn how to tell a story using the photos with audio
  • Each month will explore another aspect of the program.
