Setting Up a Wireless Network one (2 1/2 hour lecture)

Prerequisites:

None

Fee:

$15

Description:: This class is lecture only, not hands-on.

Everybody likes the freedom of using the Internet without a cable connection.  Especially when WiFi is available in lots of spots (most of downtown Austin) and at airport, hotels and restaurants. Most WiFi hotspots  are wide-open security-wise.  Anybody within range can see everything that goes between your laptop and their server.

If you have a wireless connection at home and have not set the router to use security, your home wireless connection is wide-open.

This seminar is a discussion of the things you need to know and do to be safe using a wireless network. It isn’t that hard.  You just need to be aware and be careful.
